the pictures don’t really show the graphic detail, for those who are interested in such things (like our daughter), this bike is a pretty, metallic aqua-blue and metallic chocolate brown, not black as it appears online. the brown portion has some plaid decal stickers which, along with the color combo, pleased our girl. these 2 colors are one of her favorite pairings & apparently the plaid is “in” with the tweens. not that I wouldn’t ride this bike myself; it is a good quality design from Huffy & very stylish & comfortable. bummer for those who didn’t have our luck. I wouldn’t say Huffy is a bad company, I have had many Huffy’s in my life (remember the pink/purple sweet style? oh yeah) and this bike is another good product from a company that has treated me well over the years. not high-end of course, but not junk by any means.
regarding shipping from Fogdog, it was free & speedy, & that was great. however, the box was partially mangled & the bike frame has a chip in the paint in a conspicuous spot. oh well. could be worse, we could have had those handlebar issues, I guess.
my vote: good bike.
You get what you pay for – ahme – Greenville, SC
My husband and I purchased Huffy Alpine bikes last night. We went into this knowing that you don’t get the best quality for . The bike weighs almost 45 lbs and you can certainly feel the weight when climbing hills. Today we took off for our first ride and my seat clamp broke causing the seat to fall off. I took the clamp back to Academy Sports and they replaced it. Then I took off for try number two. The gears on the first chain wheel worked fine but when I went to the second and third chain wheels the gears slipped and I could not get them to work. Both bikes need to be tuned up at a professional bike shop and then they should be fine. The Alpine would probably make an okay bike after getting tuned up but that cost between and . You can buy a 0 bike of much better quality that will probably come with a free tune up.
WARNING: PIECE OF JUNK!!!!!! – Topher –
This was the absolutely worst bicycle I have ever owned in my entire life! The first time I took it out for a test ride,(which mind you this was very even, no hills, terrain) it broke down about a mile into the cut short jaunt. I was only shifting gears when the chain binded up around the tension sprocket causing it to be pulled up into the spokes of the back wheel, I’m pretty sure that’s never supposed to happen, long story short I had to WALK my brand new bike back to the car, needless to say, I’m sending it back never again to buy another cheap Huffy Mountain bike. God forbid you ever take it up in the hills!
Huffy Bike – Sam Beady –
This product broke within two rides. Obviously, it’s a cheap bicycle, so you shouldn’t expect to be getting more than what you pay for, but I bought this bike thinking it would at least last a year or two, and it fell apart. The damage was irreparable as it was to a part of the bike that had come pre-assembled and was inaccessable. If I had wanted to spend more than the bike was worth taking it to a bike shop, I probably could have had it fixed, but I didn’t deem it worth it. Honestly, if you are considering buying this bike, spring the extra and go for the next one up. Purchasing this bike would be a waste of time, as you would have to return it within a week.
Looks can be deceiving!! – Cee-Cee – Chicago
The bike does look nice and adds a sense of fashion while riding, due to the colors and designs. However, just 24 hours after assemblying this bike. Everything fell apart. The chain slipped and the handle bar broke in two pieces. Can you believe that? I was just about to return this bike for another, when I realized that I live next door to a repairman.
The bike was fixed for an additional amount of (friends discount). Generally, it would have cost to repair.
If you read this message…just be careful. The price of the product can sometimes lure buyers, but we must realize that the cheaper products sometimes will cost us more in the long run. I gave it 3 stars because of the style, the fast shipping, and how the bike now rides that is now working as it should.
